Art
Therapy is a method of psychotherapy where people can express their feelings
when they are in confusing time; Communicating their emotion through art such as
drawing, painting, clay or markers. It is a form of self expression no
experience or talent is necessary for this type of art.
This
method of therapy is used for all types of people, at all ages. It is mainly
used for children, and people with mental illnesses, or people who are going
through difficult times, like depression, abuse, sickness, or past
problems. Art Therapy has also proved useful for people with learning
disabilities. You do not need to have a problem to benefit from art therapy.
The
Art Therapy uses a lot of basic skills, and techniques to help guide the patient
through the healing process. They listen and obscure body language and behavior.
The Therapist makes the creative process easier by explaining what the patient's
pictures mean and how it relate to their problems and emotion that they are
currently going through. The Therapists main job is to support the growth and
healing of the patient.
Art Therapy is a safe way to look at your problems. Art Therapy allows you to
see yourself and find solutions to your problems. In a different way; By
promoting healing, communication, growth, imagination, and creativity. This
method helps heal by allowing the patient to explore their identity.
By gaining self-esteem and self-awareness though drawing, painting, etc. Words
and feeling flow easily nonverbally.
For
example some people with certain mental illnesses & disabilities, can not
speak, but they need to free themselves of the anger, stress or pain they feel
and they can do this through art. Eventually a sense of satisfaction and
pleasure is accomplished healing the patient, and allowing them to deal with
their emotion instead of hiding them. By:Claribel Kwon
